The Collaborative Alliance for Research and Educationin Surgery (CARES) is an Italian non-profit network dedicated to promoting clinical research in surgery. In collaboration with the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research, CARES serves as a reference point and provides methodological and operational support for surgeons, researchers, institutions,and healthcare professionals.

The CARES Network Board oversees the scientific activities of the network and, together with the area committees, is responsible for evaluating the methodological rigor and feasibility of proposed studies. It consists of seven members, including one permanent member appointed by the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research. The Board is renewed every three years; the current members are Danila Azzolina, Agnese Carresi, Marcello Di Martino, Chiara Gerardi, Giulia Montori, Francesco Pata, and Mauro Podda.
The CARES Network is structured into three specialized committees, operating in key areas to support the evaluation of the rigor and feasibility of proposed studies.
• Education and Training
Analyzes and evaluates studies related to educational and training initiatives for surgical professionals, with the aim of promoting up-to-date, evidence-based competencies.
• Innovative Approaches
Analyzes and evaluates studies concerning emerging surgical techniques, new technologies, and experimental methodologies that can improve clinical practice.
• Clinical Research
The beating heart of CARES. It analyzes and evaluates clinical studies in the field of surgery.
